About SHUNAN

Shunan City is located in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture. It has a large industrial complex overlooking the Chugoku Mountains to the north and the Seto Inland Sea to the south. Furthermore, nearly 80% of the city's total area is covered by forests, making it a very pleasant city surrounded by rich nature, including the only place in Honshu where the Narrow-winged Cranes fly over.

Kaiten

The Kaiten, a human torpedo developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Pacific War, was the first suicide attack weapon of the Japanese Army. On Otushima island in Shunan there is a memorial site dedicated to Kaiten.
